Journal of Asian Regional Association for Home Economics requests submissions for publication in 2011 issues. Submissions for general issues in home economics are most welcome all the time. ARAHE CONGRESS IN 2011 I am very pleased to announce that 16TH International Biennial Asian Regional Association for Home Economics (ARAHE) Congress will be held in Philippines, from 25 July 2011 till 29 July 2011 which is hosted by Philippine Association for Home Economics in State Colleges and Universities (PAHESCU Inc.). The venue of this congress is at Asian Institute of Management (AIM) Conference Center in Makati City, Philippines and the theme of the 16th ARAHE Congress is “The Home Economists: Towards a more Sustainable, Commitment-Based and Family-Focused Perspective in Addressing Global Issues. This congress aims to promote interactions, discussions, collaborations, and network concerning “Home Economist: Towards a More Sustainable, Commitment-Based, Family-Focused, Perspective in Addressing Global Issues” which will lead to improvement in the quality of life for individuals, families, households and communities worldwide and addressing global issues among home economists in the ASIA, western countries and Pacific region. This International Congress includes keynote speeches, plenary sessions, country presentations, oral and poster presentations, a symposium on global issues, and livelihood demonstrations. The highlight of this congress will include an arranged Congress tour to scenic places like Los Banos, Laguna and Tagaytay City which will enable all international participants to have an insight of Philippines rich culture and natural resources. Thus, I would like to call upon and invite all Executive Council Members, Association Members of ARAHE, Life Members and all those who work for the interest of Home Economics to attend this Congress in the country of Philippines hosted by PAHESCU Inc. and be active partners in helping Home Economists initiate more programs to address global issues confronting the family and household respectively in their country. Our new ARAHE President, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hapsah Mohamed Nawawi had formed the ARAHE Secretariat which is now based in Kuala Lumpur whereby the President is currently attached. A group of nine members were being appointed to this secretariat to oversee the planning, running and coordinating of ARAHE activities for 2010-2011 during the tenure. Congratulations to those appointed and hope that their sacrifices, time and effort contributed towards the development and planning of ARAHE activities 2010-2011 are indeed greatly appreciated. Please refer to attached file (Appendix 1) for the list of ARAHE Secretariat. 2. The ARAHE Secretariat would like to extend wishes of thanks and appreciation to ARAHE Congress 2009 Organizing Committee, India for successfully hosted the 15th ARAHE Congress in MKSSS and VITS Hotel, Pune, India which was held on 13 - 15 December 2009. Our deep appreciation goes to Dr. Ela Dedhia, Organizing Chair ARAHE INDIA & Mr. Vishwas Deval, Chairman, MKSSS for their valuable contributions and efforts in organizing the congress. Around 184 members attended the Congress with the theme ”Social Upliftment Through Human Empowerment In The Perspective Of Home Economics”. 3. Professor Dr. Mee Sok Park, Vice President for Publication is currently working towards attaining a membership of Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) which is vital for home economics professionals to be promoted in their respective institutions. In order to achieve the SSCI membership, there should be enough papers to be included in the journal from various countries. ARAHE members are encouraged to submit more articles for the journal. Besides that, the ARAHE publication committees are looking into the cost of submission of article to the journal. The Secretariat would like to convey wishes of thanks and appreciation to all the outgoing Executive Committees of ARAHE 2007-2009 headed by Dr. Seiko Sawai. Congratulation to the new Executive Committees ARAHE 2009-2011 (Refer Appendix 2) being elected and headed by Dr. Hapsah Nawawi. Thus I am working on a compilation of data base of ARAHE Executive Council members and Advisory members of its correspondence details to be updated for networking. Philippine Association for Home Economics in State Colleges & Universities, PAHESCU, Inc. had organized the 14th National Annual General Membership and Seminar-Workshop Conference which was held on March 4 ? 6, 2010 at Eastern Visayas State University, Tacloban City with the theme “Global Concerns in Home Economics Education: A Challenge.” The objectives of the seminar were: 5.1 To provide forum for home economics educators to take active part in global issues and concerns of the discipline 5.2 To strengthen and enhance home economics educators’ efficacy focused on research. 5.3 To update knowledge and skills of home economists in the tertiary and basic education focused on the discipline. Prof. Dr. Hapsah Mohamed Nawawi, ARAHE President was invited by PAHESCU, Philippines to give the keynote address at the seminar. There were two members from the Malaysian Home Economics Association (MHEA) who were attached to Ministry of Education, Malaysia also attended the seminar. 6. Malaysia Home Economics Association (MHEA) with the collaboration of University Putra Malaysia, Serdang, Malaysia is organizing a talk on Globalisation Of Home Economics: Its Sustainability And The Way Forward by Professor Carole J. Makela from University of Colorado, USA on 21 March 2010 at University Putra Malaysia. Around 200 home economists in Malaysia are expected to attend the talk. The objective of the talk is to provide a forum for home economics educators to update their knowledge in global issues and concerns of the discipline. 7.
